Part 1 — Washer care

1. Wash at 30 °C whenever you can

90% of laundry cleans perfectly at 30 °C. Only sheets, towels and very dirty clothes justify 60 °C. Dropping from 60 to 30 °C saves 60% of the cycle's energy — around €15-20 per year.

2. Detergent: less is more

Most people use 2-3× the correct dose. Excess leaves residue inside the drum, feeds bacteria and damages the seal. Check the label: usually 30-40 ml per standard load, not the whole cup.

3. Clean the pump filter monthly

It's the small hatch at the bottom-left. Coins, hair, buttons pile up. If you've never cleaned it, prep a towel and bucket — water spills out. A clogged filter makes the motor work 40% harder and is the most common cause of breakdowns.

4. Leave the door and drawer ajar between uses

That damp smell isn't from the clothes, it's from a closed drum. 20 minutes with the door open after each load eliminates 100% of the problem. No chemicals needed.

5. Cleaning cycle every 3 months

No clothes inside. 500 ml white vinegar in the detergent drawer + 90 °C long cycle. Removes limescale, biofilm and odors. Extends machine life by 2-3 years.

Part 2 — Optimal dryer balls use

6. Right amount per load

3 balls for normal loads (up to 4 kg). 6 balls for large loads (double sheets, duvets, loads over 4 kg). Less than 3 loses effectiveness; more than 6 adds nothing.

7. Cut drying time by 25-30%

Balls separate garments inside the drum, letting hot air circulate better. Less time = less energy = less fabric wear. In a normal year of use you save €40-60 in electricity.

8. Reduce wrinkles if you unload on time

Balls + removing clothes within 5 minutes of cycle end means many garments won't need ironing. T-shirts, underwear, sheets come out ready to fold.

9. Bonus: a few drops of essential oil

3-4 drops of essential oil (lavender, eucalyptus, citrus) on one of the balls before the cycle. Scents the whole load naturally. Don't apply directly to the machine — wait 5 minutes for absorption before adding clothes.

10. When to replace

Our dryer balls last 1,000+ loads (~3-4 years of normal use). Replace when you notice wool starting to shed or they lose their spherical shape.

Part 3 — Bonus: reducing microplastics

11. Guppyfriend bag for synthetics

12. Quick cycles are your friends
